在此之前我们总是认为POPULATION这个单词只有“人口”的意思。但是实际上如果你查牛津双解的话，就会发现，其实POPULATION这个单词的解释就是“ （地区﹑ 城市﹑ 国家等的）全体居民”请注意，这里是“居民”，而不是“人口”。那么差别在于哪里呢？人口显然就是个数字，但是“居民”就是人了。因此TPO里面就出现了attracting populations in search of food and fuel吸引“人”来搜寻食物，这里显然只有“人”才能做搜寻的动作，而“人口”这个数字是做不了这件事情的，这就是对于词汇的细节性理解。
